Pete Finnerty

Hello from Jolly Old England!

This is my first blog so I apologize in advance if it sucks.

Well, what can I say, it has been 20 years since I have last seen you all, but despite the hole in my heart, it has been a pretty good 20 years. Here is my bullet-point life since I have last seen everyone.

  • Went to UMASS
  • Graduated from UMASS
  • Drove to Alaska to butcher salmon for a summer
  • Returned to MA unemployed with no prospects of employment
  • Somehow got a job as a Butler for a millionaire swiss tax exile in the Cayman Islands.
  • Lived on Seven Mile Beach for 2 years and traveled the world - Yeah baby!
  • Married my Diving Instructor, Diana in 1995.
  • Decided to give the UK a try and moved to London.
  • Me and my wife made our own people (Tim and Katie)
  • Live happily south of London with my wife and the sprogs.
  • Can't come back to America to live because kids would lose those British accents.
  • And here I remain....an older, fatter, balder, ghost of my former self.

But, hey I am coming back to see y'all in October -I wonder if Vito can still turn his eyelids inside out?

I still hang out with some old buddies from Nashoba (despite the distance) like Matt Sullivan, Bob Quinn, Ben Bradford and a few other people I have been arrested with. I thankfully haven't seen the inside of Bolton Police station for a number of years.

I've got nothin' else to say - see everyone in October.

Hey Pete!
When you come over in October could you please bring me two boxes of Marks & Spencer's tea bags, 10 Time Out bars, 1 jar of Bovril and all the Smarties that you can safely fit in your suitcase?
Thanks so much!
Just kidding by the way...or AM I??!!

I'm a PG Tips and Marmite man myself. Can't stand that Bovril stuff. Tell you what, I get'll you some Smarties - they are (dare I say) better than M&Ms.

How can you not like Bovril??
Wow...I miss the toast. Can you bring me some toast??
Ok, I'm done. Clearly I haven't had breakfast yet.

Peter, I don't even recognize you in the pic!!!
sopunds like you have had quite the journey in the last 20 years. what kills me is our paths crossed and we did not know it. i went the the Caymans twice.. and had I known you lived south of London i would have stayed for a visit last May... the dollar is not what it used to be!

Yeah, I don't look the same - we don't all get better looking with age you know! London is really expensive . It's a great time for us to go to the US, but not the other way around. Next time you are in town, look me up . I will be in the directory.

Amy - your memory is wayyyyyyy too good. Herr Mockinpott - from our german play. I was more of a marius the marsmench fan myself. Herr Allard - I wonder where he is and whether he solved his excess perspiration problem. Stehen Sie Auf! Setzen Sie Sich!

Cuz you know that a close third or fourth is the extremely sexy New England accent...lol.

Hey Pete,
I have a 21 year old neice studying in Rome for this semester. Any "can't miss" one or two day trips I should suggest she participate in? She and her boy friend purchased the rail pass so I believe she can get most anywhere. I wanted to purchase a nights stay in Munich for Oktoberfest, but I'm not having much luck. I'll take any suggestions you may have for me...

Well Jeff, she has gone to the right town. I have been to Rome more than any other city in Europe (other than london of course). There is not place cooler.

Florence is a great place or Art Lovers, and Sienna is beautiful too.

If I had to pick a place outside of Rome, i would say Berlin. I go there on business quite a bit and I love it. It has a cool vibe. With regards to you, well it is always difficult to find hotels in Munich during Oktoberfest. If you can't find a flight, the best thing to do is fly to london and get a no frills airline to munich - it should cost about £120 return from London.

Hey, what am I? a travel agent?

LOL, I'm not going to Oktoberfest (at least not this year anyway), but was trying to see what options may be available for my neice while she was in Europe for the semester.

I'm very jealous of her right now! They may just ride up and hang for the day in Munich. It's challenging from across the "pond" to have an understanding of how easy it is to travel throughout Europe for day trips or weekend excursions. I'm hoping she sees a lot of it. I know they have an interest in visiting London and Scotland while there until December 16th.

I'll let you know in advance so that you can bill me your services.

I was in Berlin for the 'fall of the wall' and I loved it. What a great city.

Jeff, The city of Bath (in England) is great. Excellent shopping, lots of site seeing and great pubs. A good touristy spot.
But I think the small villages that you drive through to get to the big places are really the best places to visit.
In Scotland I really love Edinburgh. It's awesome!

So....are we the only group of people going to this reunion? Where is everyone? The last time I checked there were almost 40 people registered to use this blog.

Pete Finnerty said...

sorry I didn't read it properly. Yes, you would never know there were 40 people coming to this thing. I guess they have busy jobs. Tell them to come to London - only problem is that it is incredibly expensive at the moment.
The dollar has taken a pounding against the pound.

I will kick his little girl butt all over town at the reunion.

Pete,

What’s up man?

I’ve been traveling a lot lately and just saw you left me a comment.

I do remember. It’s been such a long time huh?

Those were the good old days. Hard to believe it’s been 20 years.

Sadly, I’m not going to make it out to the reunion. I was just in MA at the beginning of the month and just got back from business in Chicago.
I’m moving into a new house at the end of the month and have planned a huge end of the season camping trip for the 1st weekend in October.
Please say hello to everyone for me. Perhaps I’ll make the next one.

Looks like I’ll be traveling to England in the spring for business though.
We’ll have to see about getting together for a pint or two.

Cheers,
